Because this is another layer of protection. The plug-in encrypted system probably isn't perfect and eventually people will find ways around it. And of course it can be changed, but only by people who know about it. It's not meant to be a failure safe plan to fully prevent stealing, but it'll help you catch unsuspecting people.

If you want to publish your images, too, such techniques might be useful.

If you want your plugins to display some graphics they can be grabbed anyways. So there's no real protection.

I never said this should replace encryption, I said it would add more security to your plug-in. Also, like I just said only people who know about this trick will know to look for this.

Like Lobby said though, it won't protect them in-game. This will only protect the texture if the original non in-game copy was modified, but it won't hurt to have it.

I think I'll use this in my future plugins

If you know about it. Not everyone uses the forum, so not everyone will know to look for it and delete it. It's not meant to be a huge security measure, just a bit more protection.
