@CommanderABab you got it. There are some more fine details to it, though:
1. If you use "override":true but there's not a definition that uses the same id yet, you will get an error (not in the current version, but that's apparently a bug).
2. If you override a plugin that has been referenced to before by other plugins (e.g. an animation that's used by buildings) you might end up with both versions in the game. Which version a building uses depends then on whether the animation has been overridden yet at loading time.

"once":true
will just omit any further definition of the plugin, so it's better for loading time, texture space and it ensures that all plugins that use it get the same version of it. Memory footprint of embedded plugins shouldn't be an issue. I assume that most users, especially on mobile devices, prefer to download a slightly bigger file than to download multiple files.

It looks like cognito inc from inside job (awesome show, unfortunately netflix cancelled it :/)
