Modular Racetrack mdk_813 [Road] UPDATE

Hi,
I finally had the time to finish this little project. It is a modular racetrack with some deco elements to spice it up.
The racetrack itself is basically a oneway road and it comes in two variants: The fast racetrack and a slower pitlane.
The leaderboard acts as a car spawner. Place at least two of them as far away from each other right next to your racetrack. They should spawn two cars each which will then "race" to the next leaderboard. The set contains three different racing cars that can be spawned randomly.
Additionally, I've added a rotation aware pit-building and some stands for spectators which are based on the stadium by Lobby and Theo. The stands also have some of my fences in front of them. The pit-building and the stands are part of the second zip below. They are not needed for the track to work.
I recommend using this set together with my fence pack and my traffic barriers.
You can also use decals to change the ground and add some gravelpits to the track.

Thanks to @Kulche who allowed me to study the workings of their racetrack.

Have fun!

UPDATE:
Due to popular request I've decided to add an alternative version (F1_Racing_mdk_813_ALT.zip) that uses targets in the car spawner which should make cars spawn quicker. The target is a rotation aware starting light which I suggest you place next to a long straight. It is still recommended to place two or three spawners (the leaderboard) around the track.

This alternative version is interchangeable with the original version (meaning you can only use one of them!).

If you want to create your own racing cars, you can use the template below.

Just add the following line (replace TEMPLATE and YOURNAME with your individual names) to the "car spawner" (remember to check where the comma belongs!)...

Code: Select all

"F1_cars_TEMPLATE_V2_YOURNAME",

... and add the following entry (again with your individual names) for a new car to the F1_Racing_mdk_813.json:

Code: Select all

{
"id":"F1_cars_TEMPLATE_V2_YOURNAME",
"type":"car",
"author":"YOURNAME",
"frames":[{"bmp":"F1_cars_TEMPLATE_V2.png","w":13,"h":11,"count":4}],
"v2":true,
"flag airport":false,
"flag normal":false,
"flag user7":true,
"active":true
},

Better than Go Cart IAP!!
Thank you!
I actually like the Go-cart track. I think it would fit nicely inside the racetrack here, because in real-life, many race tracks have some carting track somewhere on the premises as well ;)

By the way, if someone wishes to rework the stands by adding spectators on the seats to them, feel free to do so and send them to me! If it looks convincing, I would gladly add them to the set and add that person as a co-author.
I had tried it and I wasn't really satisfied with the result, but maybe someone else can do better.

It should have some sport influence :)
Hm, yes probably.
The question is which part should get that influence, though. Not sure if roads can have influences.

Very good job! It looks so realistic. Maybe some more deco like stacked tires or campers out of the circuit.

Yes, I thought about the tire-stacks, and maybe the traffic barriers could be reworked in that regard. But it would be so much work, I don't have the time unfortunately. We have nice campers and trucks etc. as plugins already, so I recommend you use those to make the racetrack more detailed and realistic.

Yes, the leaderboard could probably work. I'm not sure about what the radius should be though.

Regarding the leaderboard:
I also thought about replacing it with something else, maybe some pylons or something similar, because normally a leaderboard like that would probably not be standing right next to the track.
Let me know what you think!
Or if you want to make a car spawner yourself that would look more convincing, go ahead and send it to me!

Add another target, the spawning building after it reaches the first target.

I don't see any cars on the racing track. I placed all the buildings.
However, my car that has same flags like your road (user7) works great on it. Only difference is that I put a target in the car spawner that was another building. Since your road is one way, the car had to drive through the whole track to come to the target.
So, if you add another building as a target for your cars, perhaps they will spawn and race like they should?
Hm, I also had that problem once, when I created a small square-shaped test track. I assumed that the leaderboards were too close to each other. I bulldozed everything and made a larger circuit, then it worked.
Did you place multiple leaderboards by the way? Because it seems that one is not enough.

I just tried placing multiple leaderboards and waited.
Still nothing.
Tried again with my BMW, it worked.
Okay.
So how exactly would this work with the targets?
Is it enough to define the leaderboard as a target? Or does it have to be another building?
Would it work like this:

Code: Select all

{
"id":"F1_leaderboard_.mdk_813",
"type":"decoration",
"author":"mdk_813",
"width":1,
"height":1,
"frames":[{"bmp":"leaderboard_1x1.png"}],
"car spawner":[{"cars":["F1_cars_ferrari_V2_mdk_813","F1_cars_mercedes_V2_mdk_813","F1_cars_RBR_V2_mdk_813"],"radius":15,"count":2,"targets":["F1_leaderboard_.mdk_813"]}],
"draw ground":true,
"price":3000,
"monthly price":0,
"flag airport":false,
"flag normal":false,
"flag user7":true,
"water":0,
"power":0,
"build time":0,
"title":"F1 Leaderboard mdk_813",
"text":"Use this leaderboard to spawn F1-cars on the racetrack!"
}

That's not good.
I don't have another building.

But overall, that was the correct place to put the target inside the JSON, right?

Hm, I think they should be distinguishable in that case.
