When airport is zoned, there's this blue tile of grass which is unrealistic
maybe change it to a gray tarmac
@Lobby
What do you think?

Re: tarmac
I agree, the blue grass looks bad. But an airport is also not all tarmac, so there need to be areas of grass, too, in order to distinguish taxiways etc.
Personally, I wouldn't do a special airport-zone at all.
Don't get me wrong, the airport itself is fine, but the blue-overlay and the zoning, in my eyes, are not.
Why is an airport-zone even necessary? I find it is rather restrictive than useful. Zones make sense, if you want to define an area in which buildings can grow on their own. But here this is not the case, you want to place every single building selectively (the same is true for the military base). So, they are not only a problem visually, they are also an unnecessary limitation as far as building options are concerned.

Re: tarmac
Ok, I would prefer the first option. Or maybe zones without the overlay.
However, as a workaround it seems to be possible to de-zone the airport-zones, as shown here by @asain90 :
